EVMs tamper proof, says Former Election Commissioner of India Dr GVG Krishna Murthy
Guntur: Former Election Commissioner of India Dr GVG Krishna Murthy said that EVMs are tamper proof and cannot be manipulated or managed. He said that when the politicians win in elections, they won't say anything and when they lose polls, they simply blame EVMs.
He was inaugurating the 'Election Information Centre' near Tahsildar's office in Bapatla on Thursday set up by the 'Forum For Better Bapatla' to extend various services to voters.
Speaking on the occasion, he said the EVMs were foolproof and reminded that in his six-year tenure, he conducted elections for President of India, Vice-President of India, four prime ministers, three Lok Sabhas and 25 different State Assembly elections. Stating we cannot go back to ballot paper mode, he said once in Tamil Nadu Assembly elections in 1965, 1,033 candidates contested as a mark of protest.
He said it has become very difficult to search for symbols to all these candidates. Director General of AP Human Resource Development Institute D Chakrapani felicitated the former Election Commissioner and praised the Forum's initiative in setting up 'Election Information Centre", which is first of its kind in the district. Forum secretary P C Sai Babu said the Centre works between 10.30 am to 12 noon on all working days.
The Centre was set up to educate voters in view of the ensuing general elections, he added. Padmavathi, wife of Dr GVG Krishna Murthy, Municipal Commissioner G Sravan Kumar, Rural CI Balasubrahmanyam and Election DT Ch Visweswara Rao were present.
