Four accused in gang rape case held

Nellore: Police arrested four accused in the gang rape case in Sullurpet which occurred a couple of days ago in which a 20-year-old woman from Vizianagaram district was gang-raped. 

The accused are identified as Venkatagiri Vinay alias Nani, T Navin Kumar, K Deva, and Rajendran Tamil Selvam. Disclosing the details at Sullurpeta Police Station, Gudur DSP J Babu Prasad said that the accused were addicted to bad habits. They normally wander in Sullurpeta Railway Station limits and threaten sex workers for money. Nobody dared earlier to lodge a complaint against these persons, said  the DSP.

On February 3, the woman, along with her boyfriend, came to Sullurpeta Railway Station to board a train. She went to Railway goods shed to relieve herself. Observing this, the four accused threatened the victim and also her boyfriend and took away Rs.500 from the purse of the victim’s boyfriend. Later, the gang members raped the victim and shifted her to Kalangi River area after hearing Police siren, said the DSP.

The official further said that they had seized clothes of the victim from the accused and booked them under Nirbhaya Act. He also said they had taken the accused into custody from a flat at Vatembedu Road on Thursday.  ``We produced the accused before of the Court,’’ said the DSP. Sullurpeta CI  N Kishore Babu, SI P Viswanath Reddy and others were present.
