Kambadur (Anantapur): Works relating to Rural Urban Mission (RURBAN) including laying of cement roads, provision of protected drinking water and waste management are going in full swing. However, underground drainage works are yet to start in all the 40 odd villages.

The Centre has sanctioned Rs 127 crore for up-gradation of 41 villages in 12 panchayats in Kambadur mandal. The skill development centre is the nerve centre of the mandal training scores of youth in professional skills up-gradation.

Hundreds of youth are being trained at the skill development centre established in the village. Tailoring, computer courses and other trades are run by the centre. Nearly 300 youth from the 42 villages are receiving training at present.

The Central government is planning to development 300 such model villages in the country, 11 in AP state and 4 such model villages in Rayalaseema including Kambadur in Anantapur, Alur in Kurnool, Rajampeta rural mandal in Kadapa district and Kuppam in Chittoor district.

The main concept is to arrest migration to cities and towns and create all urban amenities and infrastructure in the model village while retaining the basic rural characteristics. Skills of all rural trades would be upgraded.

Engineers, doctors and technocrats would be wooed to work in the model villages so that the neighbouring villages would come to the developed village to enjoy all the city amenities and shop in the village. This concept would arrest migration to cities and develop urban oriented satellite economies within the district.
