Rajamahendravaram: Adikavi Nannaya University (AKNU) College of Arts and Commerce principal Dr  D Jyothirmayi has said that donating blood to the needy was a boon to the people and it is the gift of god.

Participating in a blood donation camp conducted by NSS volunteers at the campus here on Friday, she said many people were dying for want of blood. There should be adequate quantities of blood in hospitals and blood banks to perform major operations and save lives, she added.

Blood could be reproduced in our body and it could be donated thrice in a year and also helps to save the life of others, she added. She said that donating blood was a noble act.

Everyone, especially the students, should inculcate the habit of serving the needy and NSS volunteers were doing a commendable job in providing blood and saving lives.

Principal of Engineering College Dr Persis underlined the need to create  awareness on blood donation and clear the doubts of the people in this regard. Blood donation would not affect the health adversely and there was no need to fear it, he added.

More than 100 students donated blood in the camp. NSS programme coordinator Dr N Kiran and others were present on the occasion.
