Image processing has multiple benefits

Vijayawada: Image processing has multiple utilities, said Dr M V Raghunath, Associate Professor of NIT-Warangal while addressing the week-long Faculty Development Programme on ‘Recent trends in image and video-processing,’ at VR Siddhartha Engineering College here on Monday. 

The programme is jointly organised by ECWE Department of the College and E & ICT Academy of NIT Warangal.

Dr M V Raghunath elaborating on the expertise of modern techniques available in Image Processing Research arena recited various benefits of development of image and video processing that could be utilised in the identification of finger prints, the faces of criminals in crime detection, finding the number plates of the vehicles which are traveling at high speed, predicting the climatic changes and also estimating the extent of forest areas from the pictures of satellite pictures along with  measuring the size of cancer tumors. 

Dr P Srihari, coordinator of E&ICT explained the research and job prospects in the field to the students and faculty.

Dr NN Sastri, Research and Development Head of Siddhartha Engineering College said that the institution always gave priority to organize such kinds of training programmes to promote the skills of the faculty in various fields and  suggested the faculty to utilize the opportunity. 

The principal of college Dr AV Ratna Prasad,   Dr K Sri Ramakrishna,  HOD of ECE and faculty from  various institutions were present on the occasion.
