TTD contract employees to launch fast from today
Tirupati: TTD Contract Employees Workers Union decided to launch relay fast from Friday to press the TTD management to increase the salary of the contract workers working in TTD.
The Union to get the support of political parties and mass organisations to the contract employees’ demand conducted a roundtable meeting here on Thursday.
The CPM, CPI, Jana Sena, AAP, Congress and YSRCP leaders, who participated in the meeting, extended their support to contract employees, who were fighting for betterment of their wages. CPM district secretary A Pullaiah criticised TTD management for its apathy in conceding contract employees demand for hiking their salary.
CITU general secretary K Murali said though there are 14,000 employees working in TTD on contract basis, the TTD hiked the salary of about 6500 contract employees leaving others into lurch forcing the union taking up relay fast. He demanded the TTD to increase the salary of all the contract employees in TTD following the Supreme Court direction of ‘equal pay for equal work’.
Union general secretary T Subramanyam said that if the TTD failed to respond, the union would intensify the stir. The relay fast will start at 10 in the morning near TTD administrative building on KT Road on Friday, he said.
