Bureau of Energy Efficiency stresses the need to maintain ACs at 240C
Vijayawada: The Director General, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), a statutory body of Union Ministry of Power, has strongly emphasised the need to make default setting for AC at 24 degrees Celsius to all the consumers and in particular to all commercial establishments across the country.
The BEE requested the Andhra Pradesh government to take measures for implementation of 24 degrees AC temperature in all commercial establishments in the State. The BEE wrote a letter to the Chief Secretary of AP in this regard.
BEE Director General Abhay Bhakre said that the BEE has stressed the need for maintaining air conditioners at 24 degrees Celsius in all commercial establishments across the country and the same should be implemented in AP too. ``Around 20 billion units (worth Rs 10,000 crore) of energy can be saved annually in the country through such pro-active energy efficiency measures.
Union Minister of Power RK Singh in several meetings has also directed the officials to take special care in implementing the 24 degree campaign ,” Abhay Bhakre said. If about half (50 per cent) of the consumers adopts such measures, it would result in about 10 billion units of electricity, which is equivalent to reduction of 8.2 million tonnes of CO2 per year, he explained.
The Chief Secretary of AP informed that the State government was extremely serious in implementing energy efficiency measures and the usage of star-rated electrical appliances for the benefit of the people.
