SI, constable aspirants seek more time for exam

Visakhapatnam: The aspirants of police sub-inspector and constable posts in the three coastal regions are urging the state government and Andhra Pradesh State-Level Police Recruitment Board to postpone the final written examination date scheduled for March 3.

The police department notified 2,723 constable and 334 sub-inspector posts.  In all, 3,92,785 candidates, including some post-graduate students and PhD holders applied for both the posts. But a confusion prevailed as both the SI final exams and constable PET/PMT were not given enough time for preparation for the candidates.

The prelim exams for constable posts were conducted on January 6 in which 1,09,106 got qualified for the PET and PMT tests, which are being held from February 7 to 27.

The SI preliminary exam was conducted on December 16 in which 51,926 aspirants were qualified and for them PET and PMT were held from January 21 to February 9 in various districts.

As the physical test for constable candidates will end by February 27, they will have only three days to prepare for the March 3 written exam. Similarly, SI recruitment physical tests were conducted up to February 7 and  mains examination was scheduled on February 23 and 24, giving 15 days to prepare for the final tests.

“We wrote many  mails to Police Recruitment Board appealing for postponement of written exam but we have not received any reply from the officials,” lamented Seemala Gopi Krishna and Reddi Venkata Ramana of Vizianagaram district.

Gedela Jagadeeswara Rao, an aspirant from Srikakulam district, said that after waiting for four-and-a-half years they got an opportunity to secure a government job but due to these tight time-table of events and exams, they were clueless on which exam they have to focus, whether for SI or constable post.

A senior police officer in Vizag district police office, on a condition of anonymity  said that they had received many appeals orally and in writing from both SI and constable post aspirants for postponement of the exams to get enough time for examinations. But it should be decided by the board and senior officials, he added.
