Vijayawada: Senior YSRCP leaders and former Ministers Kolusu Parthasarathi and Mopidevi Venkata Ramana announced here on Monday that they are ready for an open debate with Transport Minister K Atchannaidu on the development of the BCs during the regimes of the TDP and Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.

The two leaders said the Backward Classes benefited a lot during the regime of Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy due to various welfare schemes implemented by the departed leader.

They said lakhs of BC students studied professional courses due to the fee reimbursement implemented by Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy and lakhs of families got treatment in corporate hospitals due to Arogya Sri scheme.

The two leaders alleged that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu betrayed the Backward Classes in the State and failed to fulfill the promises which including changing some BC castes into SC/ST category. The two leaders spoke to the media on Monday at the State party office here after the YSRCP conducted the BC Garjana in Eluru on Sunday.

Parthasarathi and Mopidevi alleged that the fee reimbursement scheme was grossly neglected in the TDP rule and the BC families were not able to get treatment in the corporate hospitals due to non-payment of bills to the hospitals by the State government.

They said the TDP government now restricted the fee reimbursement to engineering students and only to Rs 35,000 per year and gave permission to the college managements to increase the fee.

They said that they are ready for a debate with Transport Minister K Atchannaidu and asked the latter to announce time and venue for the debate on the development of BCs during the regimes of Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy and the present TDP government.

They said that the BCs were very happy with the BC Declaration announced by Y S Jaganmohan Reddy in the BC Garjana held in Eluru on Sunday. The confidence of BCs doubled in the State with the announcement made by Jagan that permanent BC Commission will be set up if the YSRCP is voted to power in the ensuing elections.
