Call to show empathy towards differently-abled

Nellore: The Vice-President of India M Venkaiah Naidu gave a call to people to show empathy towards the differently-abled persons. He inaugurated the Skill Development and Rehabilitation Centre in Venkatachalam on Thursday along with Union Ministers Tawarchand Gehlot, Piyush Goyal and said 18 centres across the country have been started for supporting the community through training activities.

He said foundation for centre was laid in 2016 and it was completed within two years. The Centre has been providing services in the city at Jubilee Hospital area for the last two years, he said. The Vice-President also said the Union Government had enhanced reservations for the differently-abled from 3 per cent to 4. 

Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thawar Chand Gehlot said that they had sanctioned 10 acres and Rs 20 crore to the centre in 2016 on the request of the Vice-President. These centres would support the victimised for their upliftment. 1,266 differently-abled have been supplied Rs 1.5 crore worth equipment.

Agriculture Minister S Chandramohan Reddy mentioned that the district is so fortunate for having great personalities like Venkaiah Naidu, who brought many projects to the region.

He said the district would record growth with the new railway line from Krishnapatnam to Obulavaripalli in Kadapa district. Later, Vice-President handed over the equipment to the beneficiary during the programme. Municipal Minister P Narayana and others were present.
