Gold chains, motor bikes worth Rs 10 lakh seized, 3 arrested

Vijayawada: The crime police nabbed two notorious chain-snatchers and recovered 10 chains from their possession here on Wednesday. The accused Namala Nagaraju and Katikala Mohana Krishna of Kondapalli--indulged in chain-snatchings under the police station limits of Bhavanipuram, Gannavaram, Kankipadu, Ibrahimpatnam, Satyanarayanapuram, Agiripalli and G Konduru.

They target lonely women and snatch the chains by following them on two-wheelers. DCP Crime B Rajakumari told media on Wednesday the police nabbed the duo while they were moving in suspicious manner near Kondapalli Railway station on Tuesday.

The accused sell the stolen chains with the help of Munagala Srinivasa Rao, a resident of Ajit Singh Nagar. The police arrested Munagala Srinivasa Rao also. The DCP said the two accused started criminal activities in 2017 and continued in many parts of the district.

She said one of the accused Namala Nagaraju lifted two-wheelers with the support of another person under the police station limits of Bhavanipuram and Suryarao Pet in Vijayawada and Mangalagiri of Guntur district. Nagaraju stole six bikes, which were seized by the police. The value of chains and six bikes is Rs10 lakh, said DCP B Rajakumari.
