Andhra University Vice-Chancellor inaugurates seminar on music
Visakhapatnam: A two-day national seminar on ‘Global Perspectives of Veena’ was inaugurated by Andhra University Vice-Chancellor Prof G Nageswara Rao here on Friday at Music Department. Speaking on the occasion, the VC said the varsity was a hub for arts and congratulated the music department for celebrating the successful completion of three decades of its establishment.
He said the varsity gives prominence to music, dance, acting and painting. Prof K Rama Mohana Rao, Principal, Andhra University Arts College, said that conducting a seminar on musical instrument Veena, which has a unique identity in all the musical instruments, is commendable. Every musician should have knowledge on veena and harmonium, he added.
Music Department HoD K Saraswati Vidhyarthi said the Music department has created history by organising a national level seminar on veena. She said the department conducted five national seminars in the last two years and this seminar begins the celebration of 30 years function of department.
The programme was conducted by the department in the remembrance of Rayavarapu Vijaya Lakshmi, who trained many national and international singers, the HOD said.
Rayavarapu Vijaya Lakshmi Music Memorial Director R Madhuri said the seminar was conducted to create awareness on Indian culture and arts among youth. Prof E Gayatri, founder Vice-Chancellor, Madras University of Fine Arts, was felicitated and given the title ‘Vijaya Vipanchi’ in the seminar.
