Vijayawada: On the complaint of Vijayawada Ex-Mayor Mallika Begum, the Muslim leaders have issued a fatwa to Vijayawada West MLA Jaleel Khan's daughter Shabana Khatoon on Monday.

The fatwa was issued by Maulana Abdul Qadir Razvi. In which he stated that no Muslim woman should enter politics without wearing the burka..no Muslims should cast their votes to them. This fatwa is applicable to all Muslim women.

Responding to the fatwa on his daughter, MLA Jaleel Khan said that though the fatwa is issued they will still continue their works..his daughter will contest in the elections..when compared to 2009 the present situations have changed.

MLA Khan remembered that the ex-mayor Mallika Begum, who complained against his daughter..without respecting the fatwa she contested in the 2009 elections.

He questioned Mallika Begum that in 2009 she has done the politics without considering the fatwa and how she is complaining on his daughter now.

What is the fatwa controversy and why Mallika Begum has complained?
In 2009, The Congress party has given the ticket to Mallika Begum from Vijayawada central Assembly constituency. At that time Jaleel Khan has complained to the Muslim religious leaders and they have issued a fatwa against her stating not to contest in the elections and no Muslims should voter her.

With this reason she lost the election, Malika said. She also alleged that in 2009 Khan has expected the party ticket, later got disappointed and with the conspiracy he had complained to Muslim religious leaders.

Malika Begum said the rules which were applicable to her will also be applicable to Khan's daughter and that's the reason why she has complained to religious leaders.

At that time Jaleel Khan has issued the fatwa against her and how he brings his daughter into politics now, Begum questioned.

Replying to Khan's comments that the days have changed..she said its good to remember that the Muslim traditions are followed for generations.

In 2014, Jaleel Khan has won the election from YSR Congress party and in later days joined in the ruling TDP. For the coming general elections, he decided to stay away from active politics and wants to bring his daughter in his place.

Jaleel Khan and his daughter Shabana Khatoon has met CM Chandrababu Naidu and got the green signal for the Vijayawada West Assembly ticket. From last two days, they have also started the campaign in the constituency.

Now with the fatwa on Shabana, the issue has become a reason for political discussion in the state.
