Scientists should work for welfare of fishermen: MLC PVN Madhav
Visakhapatnam: MLC PVN Madhav said that scientists should put their efforts to improve the living standards of fishermen. The second day of World Ocean Science Congress was concluded here on Tuesday.
On the occasion, the MLC said that the problems of fishermen should be sorted out through scientific methods. He said that there is a need to make use of the results and outcomes of several experiments conducted on sea by different departments, for the benefit fishermen community. In the name of development and opening of different projects, the fishermen were losing their livelihood and becoming laborers, he said.
T M Bala Krishnan Nair, Indian National Center for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), said that the availability of Fish and Tsunami warning information was given regularly by INCOIS and asked the fishermen to provide their valuable inputs to increase the efficiency of INCOIS.
The scientists of CSIR in the plenary session said that the Oceans are the biggest source of oxygen in the environment and oceans play a key role for the normal existence of mankind.
Polaraju, Director, State Fishermen Welfare Association, Dr. VN Sanjeevan, Chaitman, WOSC, Jayant Sahasrabuddhe, National Organising Secretary, Vijnana Bharathi and others participated in the WOSC.
