Visakhapatnam: Sankar Foundation Eye Hospital in association with INOX air products organised a ‘Comprehensive Free Eye Screening Programme’ at  Chandrampalem High School in Madhurawada on Sunday. The eye camp was inaugurated by the school head master Raja Babu along with retired IPS officer TSR Prasad.

Over 800 people registered in the eye camp, where a 30-member team including two ophthalmologists and 15 opticians from Sankar Foundation participated. The eye camp at Madhurawada was the sixth edition and the organisers said that the next two camps will be held in S Kota and Devarapalli.

The aim of the camps was to conduct 320 free cataract surgeries and distribute 1,360 free spectacles to poor and needy. Nearly 50 surgeries were scheduled and 430 free spectacles were distributed to the participants of the eye camp in Madhurawada.

“I never knew that I had cataract problem until I examined my eyes today. My vision is blurred nowadays but I was afraid of hospitals, medicines and the bills. This eye camp helped me address my problem,” said a 70-year-old resident of Madhurawada at the venue.
