Rajamahendravaram: TDP national president and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu cleared the name of Adireddy Bhavani as party candidate for Rajamahendravaram urban Assembly constituency, after holding a series of discussions with party leaders.
The name is yet to be announced officially. A woman candidate is being fielded in the Rajamahendraavaram urban Assembly seat after a gap of 41 years. Bhavani is daughter-in-law of MLC Adireddy Appa Rao and daughter of former Union Minister K Yerrannaidu.
In 1978 elections, Tatavarthi Satyavathi was elected as MLA from Congress and after that Assembly elections were held nine times but no party gave ticket to a woman candidate.
Adireddy Appa Rao was elected as MLC from YSRCP and later joined TDP, which he had left earlier. At that of his joining the party, TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu assured him to give priority to one of his family members at the time of elections.
Many in the town greeted Bhavani for getting ticket and assured their support to her. Meanwhile, Jana Sena Party, BJP and Congress are yet to finalise the candidates. But, for YSRCP, the party’s city co-ordinator Routhu Suryaprakasa Rao is likely to be the party’s candidate.
