Fire breaks out in pantry car of Yesvantpur-Tatanagar Express

Vijayawada/Kakinada: Fire broke out in the wee hours in the pantry car of Yesvantpur-Tatanagar Express near Gollaprolu on Rajahmundry– Visakhapatnam section and it led to regulation of train services, according to Ch Rakesh, Chief Public Relations Officer, South Central Railway.

He said in a statement here on Tuesday that prompt measures were taken to enable safety and fast restoration of train operations. Upon noticing the flames, the on-board railway staff brought the train immediately to halt at Gollaprolu.

Action was immediately taken to detach the pantry car from other compartments on both the sides of the affected train by 2 am, so as to ensure that the fire does not spread. As a precaution, one coach of the train (S1 Coach) adjacent to the pantry car was also detached.

Gajanan Mallya, South Central Railway General Manager, personally monitored the situation each minute from SCR’s headquarters at Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad before air dashing to the spot of the fire mishap to take a firsthand account of the incident and review the steps taken for bringing about normal train movements at the earliest, the PRO stated.

Following the fire mishap in the train, a few trains were delayed.  Train No  12704 Secunderabad–Howrah Falaknuma Express, Train No 12246 Yesvantapur–Howrah Duronto Express, train No 17480 Tirupati- Puri Express, train No 12728 Hyderabad-Visakhapatnam Godavari Express, train No 22860 Chennai Central-Puri Express, train No 22204 Secunderabad-Visakhapatnam Duronto Express, train No 17016 Secunderabad-Bhubaneswar Visakha Express, train No 12740 Secunderabad-Visakhapatnam Garibrath Express, train No 22863 Howrah–Yesvantapur AC Express, train No 15906 Dibrugarh– Kanyakumari Express and train No 22605 Purulia–Villupuram Express were delayed, said Rakesh.
