East Godavari teachers face biometric attendance woes
Rajamahendravaram: Many teachers in the district are facing problems with the existing biometric system due to its non-functioning and as a result, they are forced to give explanation to their higher-ups for late attendance. The government has introduced the system to regularise the attendance of teachers and to maintain timings properly in the schools.
According to some teachers, due to technical and some signal problems, the biometric system is not working properly and the teachers are forced to stay at biometric system for two to three minutes and sometimes the systems are not working for the day. With this, though the teachers attending schools in time, because of biometric problem, they are not attending to the classes.
But the teachers are getting memos from the respective officials for coming late though it is not the fault of theirs. Moreover, the government earlier announced that East Godavari district was selected as pilot project for biometric system and directed the officials of education department to implement the biometric system in letter and spirit.
As many as 14,500 teachers from across the district are facing problems in this regard. Teachers are demanding the government not to implement biometric system as majority of them comes to classes in time. Meanwhile the education department officials are saying that the biometric system helps to regulating the attendance of teachers and underlined the need to implement it. Because of this, in many areas, the teachers are attending to schools as per schedule.
