Health and hygiene programme launched for women

Tirupati: The SVIMS began the International Women’s Day celebrations with a rally followed by comprehensive screening camp aided by Pink Bus for women at Kammapalli village in Ramachandrapuram mandal. SVIMS Director Prof TS Ravikumar made it clear that their overaching goal is creating happy communities through health. 

A multi-disciplinary team of all doctors, nurses, students, medico social workers and 130 interns reached Kammapalli village and conducted screening of cancer and non-communicable diseases. They also conducted household survey in the village.

The Director has announced the launch of ‘Health and Hygiene’ programme for women and distributed sanitary napkins donated by Dr Alok Agarwal. The HoD of Pathology Dr Aruna Prayaga has distributed 4,500 packs of sanitary napkins in the village and to SVIMS patients and attendants. 

About 65 women were screened for breast, cervix and oral cancers during the camp. In the evening, the celebrations were held at SVIMS Auditorium where Dr Ravikumar announced the launch of “Engaging the Elderly” programme.

One of the focus areas of this programme will be the ‘Chronic illness management in the elderly’. It will be launched soon in the five adopted villages of SVIMS. Debate, role play and singing competitions were conducted during the programme.

At a separate programme held by former MP Dr Chinta Mohan, the Convenor of National Diabetics Control Committee and senior physician Dr P Krishna Prasanthi has said that women should keep up their good health and have regular cancer screenings after 40 years of age.

They should make use of the Pink Bus initiated by SVIMS. On this occasion, Mohan felicitated Dr Krishna Prasanthi and senior Congress leader  Prameelamma.
