Street play on women’s issues organised in Ongole
Ongole: The Progressive Organisation for Women (POW) on Friday organised a street play on women problems at Prakasam Bhavan on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
The woman was seen tied in the play with ropes. Four men wearing placards of love, caste, religion, were seen holding weapons to attack her physically.
Earlier, addressing a meeting at MNS Bhavan, POW state secretary B Padma appealed to them to repel the paternal, caste based attacks on women. POW state vice-president B Rama Sundari said that March 8 should be observed as rights day instead of celebrations.
Though the country has been witnessing drastic changes in economic and political fields, the caste system was having a telling effect, she said.
Rama Sundari lamented that the honour killings limited to North India now have been spread to Telugu states.
She said that it is everyone’s duty to fight against social differences. POW district president Bharathi, Praja Rachayitru Sangham members Rajyalakshmi, M Surya Kumari, V Manjula, Subbulamma and Yanadamma were present.
Later, they organised a rally from RIMS hospital en route Nellore Bus stand, Church Centre to Prakasam Bhavan.
