Aprilia makes its scooter portfolio more accessible with the launch of the new SR 125

Aprilia has launched its latest scooter offering at the Auto Expo 2018 at a price tag of Rs 65,310 (ex-showroom Pune). It's bigger sibling, the SR 150, has been a major success for the Italian two-wheeler brand in India and the SR 125 should make the Aprilia brand a lot more accessible to the masses.

As you can make out from the images, the Aprilia SR 125 looks exactly like its larger sibling. However, it gets redesigned stickers to make it stand apart from the SR 150. Also, Aprilia will offer the new 125cc scooter in two new shades - silver and blue. Talking about rivals, the new Aprilia 125 will compete against the Honda GraziaSuzuki Burgman Street and the TVS NTORQ 125.

Apart from the TVS NTORQ, the SR 125 is the only other scooter in its segment to be offered with Bluetooth mobile connectivity. Riders can access vehicle diagnostics through an app available on both Android and iOS platforms. One can even access navigation apps to locate service stations, petrol pumps and Aprilia showroom and service centres apart from sending out alers in case of an emergency.

Powering the new scooter is a 124.49cc, air-cooled motor sourced from the Vespa 125 that delivers 9.65PS of power at 7250rpm and 9.9Nm of torque at 6250rpm. This motor is mated to a CVT.

Both scooters even share the same frame. The SR 125, however, gets larger 14-inch wheels which promises to make it a lot more fun to ride around corners. Braking is done by a 220mm disc and twin-piston floating caliper at the front and a 240 drum at the rear. Suspension duties are handled by 32mm telescopic forks up front and a monoshock unit at the rear. It also packs a 6.5-litre fuel tank. Since the scooter employs a smaller displacement motor, we expect the new Aprilia SR 125 to be slightly more frugal than its elder sibling.

Aprilia also showcased the SR 150 Race in a new livery. The other product that was showcased at the Italian brand's pavilion was the RS 150, which was brought in to gauge the response on the audience. The company will take a call on its launch based on it.
