  • Mahindra Marazzo scores 4-star safety rating in Global NCAP test

  • It’s the fifth made-in-India car and first MPV to secure this safety rating

  • Scores four stars for adult occupant protection and two stars for child occupant protection

While the Tata Nexon has become the first made-in-India car to get a 5-star safety rating, the Mahindra Marazzo is now the fifth to receive a 4-star safety rating from Global NCAP. It is the first Mahindra model to secure a high rating in the crash tests. The Marazzo is equipped with dual front airbags, ABS and ISOFIX child seat anchorages as standard.

Breaking down the scores, the Marazzo secured four stars in adult occupant protection in the front offset crash test at 64kmph. It got a “Good” rating in terms of head and neck protection for the driver and front passenger. However, the chest protection for both didn’t score quite as well. Chest protection for the driver was rated as “Marginal” and “Adequate” for the front passenger. The driver’s knee protection was rated “Marginal” and between “Good” and “Adequate” for the front passenger.

In terms of child occupant protection, the Marazzo only secured two stars out of five. The Global NCAP report stated that top tether of the ISOFIX child seat for a 3-year-old that was installed facing forward was not able to prevent excessive forward movement during the impact. This would leave the head vulnerable while offering a fair degree of protection to the chest. However, in the case of an 18-month-old with a rearward facing seat, the Marazzo showed good protection for both head and chest.
