MG Hector SUV Announced For India; Will Take On Jeep Compass, Tata Harrier

MG is expected to completely reveal the India-spec SUV in April before its official launch in June 2019 

  • Will be MG’s first product in the Indian market. 
  • Will rival the likes of the Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson, Mahindra XUV500 and the Tata Harrier.
  • Expected to be priced in the range of Rs 15-20 lakh (ex-showroom).
  • Will be based on the 530 SUV from Baojun, another brand under SAIC’s umbrella besides MG.
  • Will be available in both petrol and diesel engine options. 

MG has announced that its debutant vehicle in the Indian market will be called the Hector. The 2019 MG Hector appears to share its platform and styling with the Baojun 530, which also comes under China’s SAIC like MG. The Hector will be followed by an all-electric SUV by April 2020 and another SUV by September 2020 in India.

The MG Hector has recently confirmed us that the Hector will be completely revealed in April 2020 before its official launch in June 2019. The carmaker might open pre-launch bookings for the mid-size SUV post its reveal in April. The British carmaker had earlier announced by the time the Hector will be launched, MG will have around 45 dealerships up and running across the country. 

MG Motor has already confirmed that this SUV will be powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine, which will be shared with the Jeep Compass. There will also be a petrol engine on offer, but MG Motor is yet to reveal any detail about it. It could be a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine as seen on the China-spec Baojun 530. 

The MG Hector SUV is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 15 lakh to Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom) and will take on likes of the Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson, Mahindra XUV500 and the Tata Harrier. Other than being priced competitively, the upcoming MG SUV is expected to get many features that are available in more expensive vehicles like a panoramic sunroof. It will have in-built internet connectivity and the infotainment system in itself will be a large tab-like vertically placed unit.
