Wipro faces discrimination suit from former employee
Wipro in Colorado district court in the US is facing an employment discrimination case after the plaintiff, demanded a jury trial on a series of issues which has affected his employment and contributed to his termination.
The plaintiff, Rex Trewin is a former global university recruiting manager at the Bengaluru-based firm, who has over 20 years of campus recruitment experience, joined the IT company in 2010.
Alleging that Wipro overlooked his contribution and penalised him for emphasising the importance of following employment laws and regulations, in his suit, he said that the IT firm terminated his employment on March 17, 2016.
In his complaint, Trewin also alleged that he was given more responsibilities without proper staff or resources after he complained to his reporting authority.
Trewin mentioned that he had taken some time off under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) but was terminated shortly after his return.
Stating the reason behind his leave is because his mother required assistance after seriously falling ill in November 2015, Trewin stated that the Defendant (Wipro) later changed the grounds for termination by alleging to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission that it was a result of ‘integrity’ issues surrounding his attendance.
He even states that the company engaged in a practice of the systematic termination of its American employees, in favour of Indian employees.
He has now requested the court for a judgment based on the company's unlawful interference with his right to take family medical emergency leave due to which, he has suffered damages, including loss of wages and benefits.
