Rahul Gandhi talks about single GST rate
Hyderabad: Congress President Rahul Gandhi, who never minces words while criticising industrialists and their nexus with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Tuesday interacted with a group of young industrialists and CEOs at closed-door meeting in the city.
Nara Brahmani, Executive Director, Heritage Foods and daughter-in-law of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, stole the show at the meeting attended by more than 100 young industrialists and CEOs. TG Bharath, son of TDP MP TG Venkatesh, was also present at the event organised by Young Presidents’ Organisation (YPO), Hyderabad Chapter.
The Nehru-Gandhi scion who was on a two-day visit to the city had reportedly promised the participants that Congress would implement single rate GST and improve the implementation of the new indirect tax if it voted to power. He also lashed out at Narendra Modi for implementing demonetisation which, according to him, hit small and medium enterprises (SMEs) hard.
"Rahul spoke about GST, demonetisation. He shared his opinion. He spoke about job creation and wealth distribution. It was a positive interaction," Suresh Daggubati said after the meeting. It is basically an event by the YPO. Normally somebody comes and talks to us. We always call prospective leaders for an interaction, he added.
Speaking to the media, TG Bharath said that Rahul Gandhi also promised that if voted to power at the Centre, the Congress would accord special category status to Andhra Pradesh as committed by the Congress-led UPA government in 2014 at the time of the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh to carve out Telangana.
According to him, the Congress President promised to address the concerns of the industry. Rahul Gandhi also promised to bring transparency for greater ease of doing business.
