Unibev launches new brandy in Telangana State

Hyderabad: Unibev Limited, a startup in the spirits segment on Monday announced the launch of a spirit brand in the Telangana market. It introduced the three-year-old matured grape spirit named, the L’Affaire Napoleon brandy and will be introducing a blended French brandy soon.

The startup is a venture between Vijay Rekhi, the former chief of United Spirits and alcohol supplier, Globus Supplier. It intends to take on the other multinationals dominating the spirit market by introducing new brands.

At present, it has whisky brands blended with scotch, aged 12 and 18 years. However, the market size of the semi premium whisky segment in Telangana and AP is five lakh cases whereas, premium whisky is ten lakh cases, on an annual basis. “These segments present a significant opportunity for us to grow at a rate of eight per cent and 10 per cent annually,” said the company official.

Besides, the startup has entered into a bottling contract with Bengaluru-based Sashi Distilleries and has identified 16 states to expand and garner a market share of 10 per cent. Vijay Rekhi, Executive Director, Unibev, said: “Modern consumers have a very clear understanding of the significance of age of the spirit. We will use this to create a niche for our brands in the overcrowded Indian spirits market.”
