Xilinx plans to expand R and D centre in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Xilinx, a US-based technology company, on Tuesday announced its plan to increase workforce at its engineering site in the city. The company also said it would move into a bigger space by next year.

In 2006, Xiling acquired CMC which used to run the development centre for Xiling in the city. From a team of 70, Xiling increased its headcount to 1,000 and by next year it plans to add on more than 100 full time recruits to its workforce. The tech company has its second largest R&D centre spread over 2 lakh sft in the city. 

Speaking on the sideline of a launch, Ajay Naini, Director of Xilinx Hyderabad, said, “with 200 Xiling labs in IIT, NIIT and other universities across India, we plan to hire a mix of new talents from these universities along with experienced professionals from the industry. Among the semi-conductor sector, we are the largest company to hire every year.”  

Xiling plans to move into a bigger space by next year, to accommodate the growing team, said Naini. Besides, the company launched Alveo, a portfolio of accelerator cards designed to increase the performance in industry-standard servers across cloud and on-premise data centres.

He said the product is available for production orders, and customers can reconfigure the hardware without incurring replacement costs.

“India is a promising data centre market and we are planning to capatalise on it. We are looking towards a growth of 20 per cent y-o-y backed by sectors like automotive, 5G and the growing data centre market. While the global contribution to the company’s turnover in FY 2017-18 was $2.5 billion,” said Victor Peng, President & CEO, Xilinx.
