‘Rangasthalam’ business touches Rs 100 cr landmark

Undeniably, hotshot Ram Charan Tej has outwitted his peers and leading stars like Mahesh Babu and Jr NTR with his upcoming release ‘Rangasthalam,’ since the rural-based love story has been reportedly sold for more than Rs 100 crore, according to trade circles.

 The heady combination of Ram Charan and Sukumar has triggered a lot of buzz from the day it was launched and has been sustained till the date of its release on March 30. 

According to sources, Mythri Movies, who sold big ticket films like ‘Srimanthudu,’ and ‘Janatha Garage,’ for fancy prices of Rs 80 crore business, have reportedly sold their prestigious upcoming film ‘Rangasthalam’ for more than Rs 100 crore including theatrical rights, overseas, satellite and digital rights to set a new benchmark for  Telugu movie business. “Ram Charan’s lungi-clad  avatar has become a sensation of sorts and his pairing with Samantha has evoked a tremendous response. 

Also, director Sukumar who is known for making novel films, has chosen a village backdrop and set his revenge drama in the 1980s to give the film a new look and backdrop. With the trailer also rocking the internet, the much-awaited film was sold for more than Rs 100 crore including Rs 10 crore for digital rights alone,” adds the source.

"Truly, Telugu filmmakers are exploiting the growing Telugu market across the world," says distributor Ramakrishna, who claims that the cost of production has hit the roof, producers are tapping varied sources to recover their investments. 

"Digital rights have come in like a blessing in disguise along with raise in overseas and satellite rights for star-studded movies. We need not be surprised, if  more films cross the magic figure of Rs 100 crore in days to come," he concludes.
