Sunita Krishnan begins counselling sessions
With the film industry-hit hard by allegations of sexual harassment, T-town bigwigs have hired the services of renowned social activist Sunitha Krishnan to counsel boys and girls working in the industry. “Sunitha is the best person to make youngsters understand the importance of gender-justice and also cautioned boys to behave properly with their women colleagues,” says a member, who attended the session in a city studio on Monday.
“She will be one of the key members in various committees to be formed and she would ensure the safety and security of women working in the industry. She knows the laws and she also advised the boys not to misbehave with girls. She told them not to misbehave with girls.
Sunitha Krishnan is an Indian social activist and co-founder of Prajwala, an NGO which rescues and rehabilitates and reintegrates sex-trafficked victims into the society. She works in the areas of anti-human trafficking and social policy.
Her organisations,shelters rescued women and children and she has set up one of the largest rehabilitation homes in the country. She is making it possible for NGOs to manage jointly, a range of protective and rehabilitative services for women and children who have been trafficked for commercial and sexual exploitation. She was awarded Padma Shri in 2016 in recognition of her yeomen service.
“After forming a panel to frame guidelines, the industry is moving in the right direction by appointing Sunitha who will create awareness and sentise male-chavunistic employees to mend their ways or face the consequences, the source concludes.
