‘Rangasthalam,’ ‘Mahanati’ heading to Melbourne film fete
The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne-2018, has announced its regional films list, with critically acclaimed films due for screening at the largest film festival in the Southern Hemisphere. The regional film category spans the marvelous films from different regions of India, with equally brilliant films from across the country.
Ram Charan’s ‘Rangasthalam’ has been selected as one of the Telugu films to be screened at IFFM this year. Directed by Sukumar, the film is based in the 1980s and revolves around a hearing impaired villager who gets caught up in the political feud of his village. Along with Ram Charan, the film also stars Samantha Ruth Prabhu with Adhi Pinisetty and Prakash Raj amongst a notable cast of prominent South Indian actors. Ram Charan will also be attending the festival as a guest for the screening of his film.
The film has been nominated under the competition section in the Best Film Category. Ram Charan will be present at the awards function of the festival. Under the unifying theme of ‘Inclusion,’ the festival promises to showcase cinematic marvels celebrating acceptance and unity against prejudice. The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne will take place next month from 10 August to 22 August, with an array of screenings, competitions, panel discussions and other activities planned for the Australian audience.
Similarly, `Mahanati’ will also be screened at the Film Festival. Nag Ashwin’s bilingual biopic ‘Mahanati’ has been selected to be screened at the festival this year. Based on the life of South India’s first female superstar Savitri, who was one of the most iconic actresses in the 1950s and 60s, the film mainly focuses on her early life and career. Starring Keerthy Suresh as Savitri, the film also stars Dulquer Salmaan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu in pivotal roles. ‘Mahanati’ was also nominated under the competition section for Best Film, Best Actress - Keerthi Suresh and Best Supporting Role- Samantha Akkineni.
