China to release 'Hotel Transylvania 3' in 'blackout period'
Washington DC, [USA] : Hollywood's animated movie 'Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation' gets an August release date in China, which is especially reserved for local movies.
The animated film is slated to hit the theatres on August 17, reported Variety.
It should be noted that Chinese regulators are changing their policy which earlier only allowed the release of local movies.
In the Chinese market, August is colloquially referred as the 'blackout period'.
With the move, China will see simultaneous releases of Hollywood movies and China-US co-productions.
'Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again' will release on August 3, while Tom Cruise starrer 'Mission: Impossible - Fallout' is set to hit theatres on August 31.
A China-US co-production movie, 'The Meg', starring Jason Statham and China's Li Bingbing will release on August 10.
Among local releases, 'Legend of Ravaging Dynasties' and comedy 'Duan Pian Er' will be released this month.
Interestingly, the first and second movie in the 'Hotel Transylvania' franchise never got an August release date in the Chinese box office.
The total worldwide earnings of 'Hotel Transylvania 3' stands at $284 million.
