Bachchan couple confirms ‘Gulab Jamun’ movie together

MUMBAI: It has been more than a year when the rumour that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and her husband Abhishek Bachchan are doing a movie together being produced by Anurag Kashyap. Last year Abhishek confirmed that the movie was in initial talks and later the rumour circled the couple turning down the project.

Aishwarya confirmed the news saying, “AB (Abhishek) and I have agreed to do 'Gulab Jamun.' I told AB that he needs to decide what he wants to do after 'Manmarziyan'.” She added that, “We had agreed on the idea then. However, it was around the same time that AB decided to take time-out. After the hiatus, he returned with 'Manmarziyan,' which coincidentally is directed by Anurag Kashyap. That's when the chatter around 'Gulab Jamun' began again, and we finally came on board. It is a beautiful script, and we fit the narrative perfectly."

The couple had not shared the screen in the past 8 years and they have acted in eight films in a span of 10 years including, 'Dhai Akshar Prem Ke', 'Kuch Naa Kaho', 'Bunty Aur Babli', 'Umrao Jaan', 'Dhoom 2', 'Guru', 'Sarkar Raj', ‘Raavan’.

On being asked what made them accept the script now she replied, “We have got many scripts, and at times, we got tempted too. But then, we discuss it out loud. We take stock and say, 'Does it excite us?' Why should marriage define our choices? Shouldn't we be actually approaching the story as individual actors?"

The Phantom production house is backing up this project and Anurag Kashyap is not directing this film.
