Suresh Babu pockets 4 cr profit on ‘2.0’?
No doubt, leading producer Suresh Babu is a shrewd businessman. Even though, he is not releasing the much-hyped movie ‘2.0’, the producer-exhibitor reporteldy pocketed Rs 4 crore on Rajinikanth’s magnum opus.
Actually, Suresh Babu and his friends wanted to release ‘2.0’ and reportedly paid an advance of Rs 25 crore for Telugu theatrical rights valued at Rs 81 crore last year.
With the film getting delayed due to technical reasons for more than one year, Suresh Babu & team urged Tamil producers Lyca Productions to refund their advance amount.
“Lyca Productions didn’t mind refunding Rs 29 crore including Rs 4 crore interest or other expenses and found new distributors. Nonetheless, it was a win-win situation for Rana’s father,” says a source from Chennai.
However, now producers-turned-exhibitors- Dil Raju, NV Prasad and UV Creations- have bought the Telugu rights for Rs 75 crore and are releasing the dubbed version in more than 800-odd theatres in two Telugu states.
“The combination of Rajinikanth and Shankar wieghed in favour of the fancy price and top Telugu distributors didn’t mind coughing up a whopping sum.
With Akshay in the baddy role and teasers and trailers evoking big response, the trio are sure of drawing sensational openings,” the source adds.
Riding on Rajini’s charisma, the distributors are hoping to make profits on the costliest dubbed film in the annals of Telugu cinema.
