Update: 2018-12-06 05:30 IST

Arriving straight from Japan for a fire chat session at Indiajoy-2018 in Hyderabad, Rana Daggubati highlighted how we (Indians) have the storytelling ability rooted in our culture and it is valued internationally both in the West and the East. It is high time we capitalised on this gift we have and become leading players in the film and gaming industry.

Answering to questions from the moderator Sridhar Muppidi, Vice President of TVAGA and Founder Purple, Rana said, “The depth of mythology characters in India is enormous. What is important is how we can build that content, make it relevant to Indian audience, and take it international. “As an investor he is making investment in that direction which is exciting for game developers,” Sridhar said. “The fire chat with Rana was very enlightening. He is a successful entrepreneur and investor. Sridhar Muppidi, who was moderating the fire chat session said. He added, “Rana’s perspective is very encouraging for game developers. Especially for highly quality media companies who want to monetise content.” Prasad Vanga, founder of Anthill Ventures, was also part of the Indiajoy IGDC (Indian Game Developers Conference) fire chat.

Rana said that Japan has become one of the countries that has shown keen interest in Indian mythology and storytelling, so much that they preferred watching ‘Baahubali’ in Telugu with Japanese subtitles. “Today’s value is in the franchise. Not just in the film called ‘Baahubali’ but the entire idea of the world of ‘Mahishmati.’ People live these characters in their minds and want their experiences to transcend beyond just a few hours in the theatres. As creators and story-tellers should recognize the value of what we already are. He advised the upcoming entrepreneurs and storytellers to have faith in themselves. “There is no mantra that anyone can teach you. Your mantra can only come from within you, from your beliefs sculpted by your experiences, your failures, more than your successes,’’ he concluded.
