“Surely, one-film wonder Payal Rajput doing a cop role would be interesting watch out for. Equally, Sharddha’s role as well. In fact, Payal  after declining to do heroine roles opposite stars, she chose to carry a film on her slender shoulders and that to a cop story, to give her career a fillip. The diva who oozed loads of glamour in her debut film ‘RX 100’, now all set to showcase her fiery side in police story,” says director Santhos Srinivas, who terms it as a ‘challenging effort’ for the new-age sensation. Despite other glam divas like Pragya Jaiswal (Nakshatram),   Kyra Dutt (Paisa Vasool) and Anasuya (Kshanam) showcased their  their tougher side, but had to be content with  ‘limited’ sucess at the box office.

“Its unfair blame the actresses Some directors misuse cop roles because for them it is just an excuse to have another glam girl in the film. For instance, Pragya Jaiswal and Kyra in ‘Nakshatram’ and `Paisa Vasool’ respectively were meant to  titilate the audience, than to showcase their tougher side,” says director Sudheer Varma who wants young  directors to ‘dish out serious cop stories even with young actresses’ to change this perception.

However, veteran director Kodi Ramakrishna says carrying a cop role is not so easy and demands ‘larger-than-life’ image. “Undenibaly, Vijayashanti holds the fort and was invincible in cop roles by bringing in the necssary anger and anguish of honesty onscreen. Films like ‘Kartavyam’ and ‘Shatruvu’ vouch for her performance and her larger-than-life image.  In fact, she brought dignity and respect to khaki-clad women,” Although her peers like ctresses like Roja, Ramya Krishna, Priyamani, Vani Viswanath and Sneha had their share of cop roles but returned to regular glam-centric roles to keep themselves afloat,’. ‘That’s why Vijayashanti stays ahead,” adds Kodi Ramakrishna.  Whereas, B-town top actreses like Rani Mukherjee, Priyanka Chopra could make a mark as fiery cops. “We should blame it on  Telugu audience who prefer men in khakis over women, hence actresses have to be doubly careful,” concludes director Gunasekhar.
