I am not in the business of trending says John Abraham

Actor John Abraham who is gearing up for the release of his forthcoming film ‘Romeo Akbar Walter’, has said that he is not in the business of trending and he just want to be in good films, educate the audience and move ahead in life.

John Abraham was interacting with the media at the trailer launch of ‘Romeo Akbar Walter’ along with his co-actors Sikander Kher, Mouni Roy and director Robbie Grewal on Monday in Mumbai.

John Abraham was asked about Kangana Ranaut's recent statement that actors should make political statements. John Abraham said, "If they are politically aware, then I think Kangana definitely is (right). She has got a voice and I think you must take a stand if you are politically aware. "

John Abraham also said that one shouldn't make political statements only to trend. He added, "So when you know a situation, you can make a statement. But again, making a statement at the right time is important. Not making a statement for effect or to trend. So I am not in the business of trending. I don't want to trend. It's good to show good films, educate your audience and move on with life."

He added, "You shouldn't be like I say 'stupidly talented'. You cannot be an idiot who doesn't know anything about which countries lie where and what's happening. If you don't know what's happening in Bihar to Syria then, you should just shut up and show your mug that you have done so much work on. Don't talk."

"So unless you are aware about what's happening then only make a statement. If you are not aware, don't make a statement. I think everybody here sitting who made this film on this bench here, everybody in my view I think we are all very politically aware. We understand what's happening. Of course, we have shot the film a lot in Kashmir. So we know what is happening there and we know what the grassroots and ground roots problems are there. So we understand what's happening there," the actor stated.

When asked John about the escalating tension between India and Pakistan post Pulwama attack.

He said, "There has to be a war against terror, not against a country, religion, religions or between religions. I am very clear in my outlook. I (will) probably get picked on, but I am not going to sit on the fence and say 'this audience will like it, that won't’"

The actor said he was not the one to shy away from calling a spade a spade."There has to be a war on terror. It has to be over and done with. That doesn't mean you have to fight with another country. That doesn't mean you have to stereotype people," he said.

But today the problem is that the world is getting "polarised", he added.

"We are stereotyping people, that's probably the most dangerous sign. It shouldn't happen. But that's the way the world is functioning today."

RAW aka ‘Romeo Akbar Walter’ is about a RAW agent, played by John, who is sent to Pakistan ahead of 1971 Indo-Pak war.

The film also stars Mouni Roy, Sikander Kher, Jackie Shroff and Suchitra Krishnamoorthi in pivotal roles.

Directed by Robbie Grewal, ‘Romeo Akbar Walter’ will head to theaters on April 5.
