Veterinary doctor booked for puppy’s death in Hyderabad

​Hyderabad: A case under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960 was booked against a veterinary doctor after a puppy died allegedly due to overdose of anaesthesia, during a surgery. A post mortem was conducted by other doctors following complaint by an animal right activist.

As per the complaint lodged by Radha Kumari, an animal rights activist, a 6-month-old puppy which was rescued was taken to Narayanaguda Veterinary Hospital for treatment in April. However, after regular check-up at hospital, one of the doctors asked her to take the puppy to his private clinic in Warasiguda, where he performed a surgery allegedly after administering overdose of anaesthesia. 

Within a day, the puppy died and after several attempts to lodge a complaint, the Chilkalguda police registered a case against Dr Mirza Ali Tahir Baig, the veterinary doctor. The other doctors at Narayanaguda Veterinary Hospital also performed post mortem on the puppy.
