NEW DELHI: At Vivek Vihar in east Delhi a 23-year-old businessman paid the price for stopping and getting out of his car late at night. This gave the three men an opportunity to hold him at gunpoint, used his car to drive around and then rob him of his debit cards. The men let him free around dawn near Shyam Lal College in Shahdara.

The incident happened on Friday night when the victim, a resident of Jhilmil Colony, was returning home after meeting some of his  friends. The youth, who runs the family firm dealing with PVC items, told cops that he stopped his car near the DDA community centre in Vivek Vihar to relieve himself.

While returning to his Hyundai i20 car, he was accosted by three men. “They put a gun in my back and told me to quietly sit on the back seat of my car, they took the Rs 3,700 in cash that I had and held me captive in my own vehicle.” the businessman said in his complaint.

While one of them took over the steering wheel, the other two made sure that their captive was not able to free himself. They also took his three ATM cards and a gold chain and warned him to not to make a fuss.

As his captors fled in the direction of Seelampur in northeast Delhi, the young man dialled 100 and informed the police about his ordeal. A case was registered for kidnapping under Section 365 of the Indian Penal Code, for robbery (Section 392) and for committing robbery with attempt to cause death (Section 397). Investigators are scanning the CCTV footage along the probable route taken by car for clues to the identity of the criminals. The staff of the 24-hour store is also being questioned for information about the three men.
