Cricket stadium inaugurated at GITAM

Visakhapatnam: The newly developed state-of-the-art GITAM Cricket Stadium at GITAM (Deemed to be University) was inaugurated by BCCI Selection Committee (Seniors) Chairman MSK Prasad here on Tuesday in the presence of GITAM President M Bharath, Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh Chairman Dr P Ankamma Chowdary, GITAM In-Charge Vice-Chancellor Prof K Sivarama Krishna, Andhra University Physical Education Director Prof N Vijay Mohan and others.

The Stadium is a green top out field having three strip turf wickets with sightscreens and scoreboard. The Outdoor Gallery has been constructed on four sides of the cricket field with a seating capacity of nearly 6,000 spectators. In addition, a three-storied Pavilion has been provided for VIPs and Players. The ground floor accommodates a Stage, two VIP lounges and two dressing rooms for the players. In the gallery floor, 250 special spectators can sit and witness the matches. Further, another 250 viewers can watch the matches from second floor (Terrace) of the pavilion.

While inaugurating the GITAM Cricket Stadium BCCI Selection Committee Chairman expressed that the stadium is one of the best cricket stadiums in the country and he will put his efforts to bring some high quality matches to GITAM. He mentioned that after observing 300 cricket grounds in the country he was highly impressed with the infrastructure in GITAM Cricket Stadium. He recollected his earlier days in Visakhapatnam and mentioned that developing international play grounds in universities certainly helpful to the young generation to bring laurels to the country.

Indian cricket team is in peak position: During the interaction with media BCCI Selection Committee Chairman praised the present Indian Team and mentioned that “we shaped the perfect team and happy with their performance”. He shared that Indian success over Australia is happened in right time.   He said that the composition of the team with seniors and youngsters is always gives best results and was proved even when the Kapil Dev achieved World Cup in 1983. He hoped that the present team members will continue up to coming world cup except few changes.

GITAM President M Sribharat said that developing a international cricket stadium for students is the dream project of his grandfather and founder President late Dr MVVS Murthi. He further informed that the management is very keen to add any other needed infrastructure to conduct international matches.

GITAM Vice-President Prof M Gangadhara Rao, Secretary BV Mohanarao, Joint Secretary M Bhardwaj, Registrar Prof KVGD Balaji, GITAM Sports Board Secretary Dr K Ramakrishna Rao and others participated in the inaugural function.
