Mumbai: Vivekanand Education Society Institute of Management (VESIM) Business School, one of the leading B-schools in Mumbai, successfully hosted the 3rd edition of BASIC 19 - Big Data Analytics & Smart Cities International Conference 2019. Being one of Mumbai’s most revered and prominent international conferences, BASIC’19 was an unconventional symposium with the kind of discussions and content it offered on Business Analytics, Big Data and Artificial intelligence.

VESIM’s annual flagship event BASIC, which has been conceptualized after taking into account the growing importance of data analytics in every walk of life, has evoked good response and interest amongst the students and corporates. This year’s BASIC 19 saw prominent analytic experts and dignitaries from within and outside the country such as Mr. Jorge De Lucas Cadena, Consul General of Spain, Dr. Carlos M. Rodriguez, Director of the Center for the Study of Innovation Management at the Delaware State University, Dr Andrez Artal-Tur, Associate professor of economics at the University of Cartagena and Manuel Rincon, Consultant at Accenture just to name a few.

Post the successful hosting of BASIC 19, Dr. Satish Modh, Director, VESIM Business School, said, “This was the third edition of BASIC International Conference. We converted the conference to a five days event from a two days event by including wider participation of students in the DataQuezt and a faculty development program conducted by Dr. Carlos which evoked very good response from management faculties of various institutes in Mumbai. 28 research papers on big data and business analytics were presented which is also a record for this event“.

Teams from across colleges in Mumbai participated in DataQuezt, a 24 hour analytic based coding competition, where the team from NMIMS – ‘Data Solvers’ won the prize money of INR 30,000. Other events included research paper presentations by academicians and students, panel discussions on various aspects hitherto untouched so far, series of expert talk by national and international speakers and a job fair.

For this conference, VESIM was supported by SAS and University of Cartagena, Spain as academic partners and College of Delaware State University, USA as knowledge partner.
