Gates Institute of Technology organises IoT Hackathon

Gooty (Anantapur): Gates Institute of Technology had organised an International Internet of Things (IoT) Hardware Hackathon first of its kind in association with Florida Atlantic University, Florida in the college premises on Sunday. The challenge was to build wearable devices for medical and social applications using Watson IoT.

 Teams of 2/4 students are challenged to build wearable devices and solve a problem of relevance and significance. Each participating student received IoT hardware to build IBM Watson IoT/AI driven smart wearable device. Students had received training from Prof David Jaramillo from IBM & Prof. HariKalva from Florida Atlantic University on building the devices, using IBM Watson IoT services, and integrating additional sensors on the platform.                                                         
As many as 25 teams had participated in the training session. After completion of 3 Training Sessions for the students, 10 teams were shortlisted for the final presentation out of 25 teams. The shortlisted teams were provided a training session on the concept of Ideation. The kick off session was conducted by Yvonne Power, co-founder, Village Energy, an Austrailian organisation.     
  The Non-stop marathon  was inaugurated at 4 am on 21st Feb 2019 along with counterpart FAU students on the other side of the globe and went on until  22ndFeb 2019.

The IoT Hardware Hackathon was exceptionally good and it opened entirely a new world to our students. Students felt very happy in interacting with the other side of the world by watching their presentations and ideas. It was fun, a lot of learning and also realizing their potential to work non-stop for 22 hours. It was such a great experience and a matter of pride for our students to interact with great innovators and counter parts from FAU, USA. Village Energy, Australia were the Sponsored partners for the event. Mr. Kuthsav from Village Energy, Australia attended the event and guided our students in final presentations. 

  The Team leaders who presented concepts of ideation include A Mohammed Shaesta, ALN. Sharma, Anjaneyulu Area, Ramanjaneyulu, Janaki, S Gousia,D.Shaheen and Shainaz Kousa who presented their Hackathon on smart pendant on women safety, wearable assisitive device for visually impaired, Health monitoring system using IOT, Vehicle theft detection, third eye fr blinf persons, IOT n military health protection, Care on seizure patients, IOT based human protection system using sensors and IOT smart wallet.
