PJTSAU convocation on Dec 9

Hyderabad: The second convocation of the Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) will be held at the university auditorium in Rajendranagar on December 9. Governor ESL Narasimhan will preside over the convocation and Dr. Rajendra Singh Paroda, Chairman, Trust for Advancement of Agricultural Sciences, New Delhi will be the chief guest and deliver the convocation address, according to a press release.

Dr.Paroda will be conferred the degree of Doctor of Science (honoris causa) by the university in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Indian agriculture. He is an eminent plant breeder and is known internationally for his contribution to plant genetic resources through establishment of Gene Banks and pioneer in development of the prestigious National Agricultural Technology Project (NATP) of the World Bank which has reoriented agricultural research, education and extension system in the country.

The convocation will have 162 candidates receiving their degrees in PG and PhD programmes with 103 candidates taking the degrees in person and the rest in absentia. For the Undergraduate programmes, 584 students have qualified for the award of degrees in various faculties of Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering & Home Science and 367 candidates will receive the degrees in person.

The convocation will also have distribution of gold medals, 10 for PG/PhD and 17 for UG programmes, to outstanding students who excelled in academics at university level. For her excellent overall performance in varied activities under graduate level, across all faculties of the university, Sayyeda Salima Asra will be awarded the PJTSAU Outstanding Student Gold Medal, the release added.
