AP MedTech Zone focussing on critical components research

Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone is the first of its kind in the entire country which is working on medical technology, mainly focussing on Critical Components Research, declared APMedTech Zone Managing Director and Member Secretary, National Medical Device Promotion Council Dr. Jitendra Sharma here on Monday at GITAM Deemed to be University campus. He said that new medical technologies could drastically bring down the medical cost and would prove beneficial to developing countries like India which is spending colossal sums of money on medical equipment imports.

Dr. Jitendra Sharma who is also working as Executive Director, Kalam Institute of Health Technology informed that the Institute is encouraging the academic community for technology transfer from research to industry through e-auctions of research outputs. 

He observed that Indian medical device market has grown from USD 2bn in 2009 to USD 6bn in 2018 at CAGR of 16 percent and estimated to grow up to 10 bn USD by 2020. He said that India is one of the top 20 global medical device markets and the 4th largest medical device market in Asia. 

He informed that AP MedTech Zone is initiated to successfully run rural medical and health program in the state of Andhra Pradesh through 7000 ATM (Any Time Medical Care) centres with the support of WHO (World Health Organisation) where the physical presence of doctors is not possible. He also announced that they are planning to implement home care health program for 65 above age group citizens which was first of its kind in the country. 

GITAM In-charge-Vice Chancellor Prof. K. Sivaramakrishna expressed that the university is ready to tie up with AP MedTech Zone to focus on new technology areas for academic development. GITAM School of International Business (GSIB) Director Prof Y Gouthama Rao, Centre for Entrepreneur Programs Chairperson Dr.Radha Raghuramapatruni and others participated in the program.
