Drainage works launched at AS Rao Nagar
AS Rao Nagar: The Greater Municipal Hyderabad Corporation (GHMC) inaugurated the underground drainage works at AS Rao Nagar in the presence of Hyderabad Mayor B Rammohan, Uppal Deputy Commissioner GHMC Yadagiri Rao and Local Corporator Pavani Reddy.
The works would take six months to complete and the estimated cost of this project is around Rs 40 lakh. Works are likely to begin next week. The problem of drainage has been persisting in the area for five years now.
Speaking to The Hans India, local Corporator Pavani Reddy said, “The project would include rectifying of drainage pipes throughout the area, widening the pipelines of drainage by cleaning it up and closing of manholes. These developmental works will also increase the water pressure which has affected the water supply in the area.”
“The project will not only end the drainage problems but will also ensure healthy environment to the residents over one lakh 20 thousand living in the area,” she said. Recalling the problems of the drainage, Mohan Reddy, a retired government employee said, “Mosquitoes and flies were a constant source of nuisance due to the drainage water.
We could not go out as the water would overflow on the roads and neither could open the door post 4:30pm in the evening. We are looking forward for the project getting completed as soon as possible.”
Shyamla Rao, a housewife added, “The water which is supplied to our homes sometimes gets mixed with the drainage water. My son had developed infection on his neck last month, due to the usage of this contaminated water. We are glad that our corporator has introduced the development works as it would enable us to live a normal life.”
