Finally, a resolution you can keep
Year end festivities may have end but celebrations and parties continue. Be it a special occasion like your birthday or a big fat Indian wedding, there is always something around the corner. But is your body ready for the onslaught of rich foods, late night parties, and plenty of sugar rush? A little bit of care and some preventive measures can ensure you enjoy all the parties without falling sick.
Ms Kanchan Naikawadi, Preventive Healthcare Expert, Indus Health Plus says, “Generally, most of us think of making a detox diet chart once the party season gets over. However, there is a way called ‘Pretox’ through which one can enjoy the whole spell and at the same time, counter the ill-effects of binge eating and drinking.”
Here are some important tips for a successful Pretox, so you never staop partying:
Dark chocolate is good for you: It is easy for the body to break down dark chocolate as it has natural, less complex sugars. So do not stop munching on your favorite dark chocolate
Begin and finish with green shots: Have a shot of Aloe Vera juice before going out for drinks, have it again when you return home. It will help line your stomach, ease muscle and joint pains, and you can easily make your own dance moves
Drink plenty of water: For every alcoholic drink you have, your body expels up to four times as much liquid. The diuretic effect of alcohol and the dehydration contributes to the discomfort during a hangover, so replenish the fluids by drinking more water
Double the veggies: Start eating twice the number of vegetables and protein for lunch and dinner. You can have them steamed, baked or raw. This will boost the amount of digestive enzymes your body produces and ease the digestion
Meditate: Stress has been shown to reduce the levels of energy and peace that can upset your body’s functions. Start incorporating relaxation techniques like yoga and meditation into your daily routine
Boost your digestion: Making sure that your digestive system is working to its full capacity is the key to not putting on too much weight. Drink plenty of water and add soya/almond milk products to your diet while cutting back on your intake of normal dairy products
Pick the right starters: Eat the kind of food that will absorb the alcohol well and keep you healthy. As drinkers mostly favor snacks, make sure to include ones with whole grains and polyunsaturated fats like omega-3 fatty acids, which are found in certain fish including salmon, tuna, mackerel, and sardines and some nuts and seeds
Workout is saviour: Walk when you can, go for a quick morning jog or do a gym class. Squeeze the exercise in now and it will help keep your body in shape
