GHMC takes special steps to keep Charminar surroundings clean
Charminar: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is taking special steps for keeping the surroundings of the historic monument of Charminar so as to ensure an ideal atmosphere and conditions for the benefit of the visitors.
The Central government, which recognised the monument as a special iconic place, has sanctioned special funds to the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) under its corporate social responsibility.
Without waiting for these funds, GHMC has sanctioned two dustbins for each street vendor near Charminar so as to ensure that its surroundings remain clean, besides creating awareness among them on the need for maintaining cleanliness.
It has appointed a sanitation worker for 20-30 street vendors mainly in the areas of Pathargatti, Shalibanda, Murgichowk, Laad Bazaar, to make sure that no garbage is thrown on the road.
The GHMC has handed over to each trader in the Charminar area one blue and green box each for collecting wet/dry garbage, after removing the dumper bins. The civic body has appointed two senior officers to oversee steps to ensure that no small bits of paper or plastic cover remain on the streets. It has taken special steps to keep the she-toilets and public latrines clean. The GHMC is collecting feedback from visitors coming to Charminar, including foreigners, on the Swachh programmes being taken up.
