Rohingya Muslims swell in city
Hyderabad: With each passing day, the number of Rohingya Muslims is swelling in the Old City. On the one hand the central government issued directives to deport them but the Rohingyas have been making Hyderabad their home.
According to police reports, every month a few of them leave for other states such as West Bengal but more come into Hyderabad. Rohingya Muslims first came to Hyderabad in 2009.
Today, their number has gone up and there are close to 4,000 living in Balapur, Pahadishareef, Hafeezbabanagar, Kishanbagh, Hamza Colony, Royal Colony, Jalpally, Shastripuram and Bahadurpura. In spite of language problem and getting even menial jobs, the Rohingyas have been staying in the city. Many use dubious methods to procure voter ID and Aadaar cards.
