VV Nagar emerge RR football champs

Hyderabad: VV Nagar reinforced their football superiority while annexing the trophy in the Ranga Reddy District League-cum-knockout tournament that concluded at JJ Nagar Ground in Ammuguda under floodlights late Tuesday night. The tournament, which attracted an impressive turnout given the popularity of the sport in the region, was conducted under the auspices of Ranga Reddy District Football Association (RRDFA).

Displaying a clinical game-plan that was executed to perfection, the eventual champions posted a comprehensive 2-0 win over Army School, RK Puram, after being up 1-0 at the break in the championship clash.

Akash opened the scoring with a crisp goal that was netted in the very second minute while Bharath added to the opponent’s woes with a 52nd minute goal.

Earlier, in their respective semifinal clashes, VV Nagar defeated HCL 5-2 while Army School registered a 7-6 (sudden death) verdict over Asha Officers Colony.

 Later, Dr Mohammed Ali Rafath, President Telangana Football Association (TFA) gave away the prizes. Corporator Swarnaraj, TFA Secretary GP Palguna, RRDFA President, P Rajendran, and newly elected Secretary of the district unit, Ramesh, several coaches and yesteryear players were present on the occasion.
