Pioneering Design In The City

Update: 2018-01-11 03:44 IST

PAGE Junior College is a pioneer in paving the way for students to concentrate on preparation for Design & Architecture entrance examinations along with Intermediate preparation.

The only college in the twin cities to have a special section – MPC/MEC Integrated with Design thinking and Innovation modules which also prepares students for Design & Architecture Entrance Examinations – PAGE keeps in mind that everyone is creative and may be looking for alternatives to stereotypical careers like Medicine and Engineering. Hence a special branch to cater to the students’ specific needs and empower their pursuits.

A senior Product Designer, Business Innovation Strategist, an academician by choice and alumni of NID Ahmedabad, Mr. Srinivasarao Pattur has been our guiding force and creative mentor to bring the design culture amongst our students.

We are reaping positive results by being associated with a designer like Mr. Srinivasarao with three decades of professional experience in Design Strategy, Branding (Identity design), Packaging, Design management, Retail design, Web & Interaction design, Industrial (Product) design, Digital Marketing and Design Teaching.

He is also experienced in handling the design and development process of Innovation, product/ service design cycle from Pencil sketch to launch of patentable concepts.
Mr. Srinivasarao has a vision about alternate professional education.

He constantly questions the status quo of the present secondary school education and relentlessly experiments with, redefines and reconceptualises learning modules to empower teenagers. As PAGE has similar beliefs in such initiatives, Mr. Srinivasarao and PAGE form the perfect team.

Mr. Srinivasarao was instrumental in setting up the Design & Innovation Lab at PAGE Junior College, the only one of its kind in the twin cities. Here, Mr. Srinivasarao mentors the students in Design Thinking and conducts exercises and projects in Innovation with amazing results.

The Origami Workshop conducted recently by Mr. Ankon Mitra was part of the vision envisaged for the students preparing themselves for the Design world. Mr. Srinivasarao aims to facilitate students' learning in what he calls “Imagineering” (Engineering with Imagination) and a part of this effort was the Origami workshop. Mr. Srinivasarao lends his time to conduct regular classes and special workshops for the students, and all of them work on ongoing projects which he mentors personally.

These will be invaluable when they organize their portfolios and attend personal interviews at the Design colleges.

Principal Mrs. Deepa Suresh explains: “These students need the right nurturing, encouragement and personal attention which we believe is PAGE’s forte. We are able to identify the students’ strengths and work on them in such a way that they can definitely achieve their dream career,” she says. “From basic drawing to portfolio building, we take care of it all. They need to have the right exposure and develop the right attitude to be a success in the Design world. Currently, this is an unique experience offered only at PAGE Junior College.”

PAGE consistently sends its students to the best Design schools and scores high in the Architecture entrance examinations like JEE B. Arch and NATA. This year, NATA’s top score was 158 – PAGE was not far behind with 154 & 152. PAGE also encourages these students to take part in all things creative and constantly challenge themselves.

For example, 22 students qualified in the semi-finals of the DSK International School of Design National Olympiad, and Abishai Choragudi, who is in his Junior year at PAGE, has qualified for the Finals to be held in a few days.

Abishai, who will be appearing for the NID and other Design entrance examinations next year, says his Junior year at PAGE has already widened his exposure immensely. “I joined PAGE Banjara Hills because it’s the only college that has an MPC section integrated with training for Design & Architecture entrance examinations.

Anywhere else I would have had to run between college and coaching classes, but here I have it all neatly packaged between our college working hours of 8:00 am- 4:00 pm, plus we have all these added activities” Jai Karan Gutta, who is planning to be an Architect, says that the insights he has developed in the last one year have given him a clear picture of what Architecture is going to be all about and how exactly he must go about his preparation.

The parents are equally happy as well. Anushka Bhattacharya’s mother is an established artist with a gallery of her own. “I wouldn’t have put Anushka anywhere else,” she says. K.E.M Srikar’s father, Mr. K. Ramana, is confident that we will lead Srikar up the NID path. They are all eagerly waiting to see what the next thing is that PAGE has in store for their children.
