ORR drinking water project up by RS 70 crore

Hyderabad: The Outer Ring Road (ORR) drinking water project becomes costlier by Rs 70 crore for water board now. This project is intended to supply drinking water to about 190 villages inside the ORR limits and its capacity is of 180 reservoirs of 50 million litres each.

The project works are already initiated at 119 different places for laying 2,041 km pipeline. Almost 30 lakh people living in the peripheral municipalities would be benefited once the project is completed. Currently, these municipalities are not getting safe portable water. 

Overhead tanks and ground water are the only source of drinking water in these municipalities. Private water supplying mafia becomes active during summer in these areas every year. Considering the problems of citizens in these areas, water board has decided to expand its water supply ring in these municipalities. 

The ORR drinking water supply project was launched in August 2017, but Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao announced to include few more villages in the project.

Water board officials had to redesign the project details and the capacity of the reservoirs was enhanced. 

This exercise was done to see the expenses come down however water board now has to shell out Rs 70 crore more. Officials in the water board informed that the project expenses were above the estimations. Most of the areas from old city will also be benefited with this project including Chandrayangutta, Pahadi Sharif, Yerra Kunta and others.
